How PH-ART-ED Started

I didn't set out to teach photography. I set out to learn it.

After my own wedding in 2011, I saw what our photographers earned and started paying attention to photography properly for the first time. Not long after, I was made redundant from my job selling employment law and health and safety services.

I bought a camera and signed up for a college course, expecting them to teach me how to use it. They didn't. They taught me how to make photographs — how to see like a photographer. The camera itself, I had to work out on my own, the slow way, over years of trial and error.

That gap is where PH-ART-ED started. I took everything I had to teach myself and condensed it into one method, so nobody else has to lose the years I lost. One focus point. One light meter. Aperture pre-decided. ISO set for conditions. Shutter speed as the only live variable.

Once the camera stops being the obstacle, you get to the part that actually matters — what's in the photograph, and how you design it. That's where the real skill lives. That's what I teach.
